founded in February 2016, has a mission to provide fi nancial support to youth athletes who have the desire and work ethic to excel in all aspects of life. Believe In Better targets athletes of prep school age, but considers each appli- cant on an individual basis. Athletes enrolled in a university are ineligible for a scholarship. Believe In Better already has applicants lined up to receive scholarships starting in Fall 2016. “All of us (at Believe In Better) are good friends and share the same mindset in wanting to make a difference in the world,” Woods said. “Athletics is something that we are all passion- ate about, as we have seen the benefi ts that come from it in our own life. Initially, I came up with the idea of sponsoring kids in athletics, and after sharing my idea with the group, we began to take steps to make my idea a reality. We would talk through things with each other and discuss different ways we can make this non-profi t succeed. An organization ‘created by athletes for athletes’ became our tagline.” The athletes selected for the Believe In Better


program will mirror the same dedication that the quartet of players who founded the organization. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for


youth athletes with this same determination and mindset to succeed as well,” Woods said. “At Believe In Better, we don’t just pay for the kids to participate, but also will pay for private lessons and athletic camps - allowing them every op- portunity to excel and get better. All kids should

have the opportunity to pursue greatness in athletics, regardless of their fi nancial situation.” The organization has set goals, but it doesn’t want to get over-committed. “The main goal of Believe In Better is to use athletics as a way to better a young person’s life,” Woods said. “Ideally, we would like to raise $10,000 before committing our services to any of the applicants. We do not want to put


ourselves in a position where we tell someone we can help them, but do not have the funds to do so. Applicants on a Believe In Better scholarship are expected to meet attendance, GPA and character requirements, using the scholarship as motivation to better all aspects of an individual’s life.” For more on Believe In Better, check out its website at www.believeinbetterinc.org.
