Also speaking in the Learning through Technology zone is BBC micro:bit (3.30pm Thursday, 12.00pm Friday and 10.30am Saturday). The UK currently faces a critical skills shortage in the technology sector, but the BBC and partners are aiming to help change this with the release of the BBC micro:bit. The BBC micro:bit is a handheld, programmable computer being given free to every Year 7 or equivalent child across the UK. The workshops will introduce visitors to the device and will teach them how to programme the devices, along with a range of ideas as to how it can be used within the curriculum to inspire digital creativity and enthuse a new generation of tech pioneers. In another seminar, Sway will demonstrate how it can give teachers and students a new way to create projects and demonstrate learning. In just a few clicks, teachers and students can create a stunning visual presentation with a unique web URL that can be easily shared for viewing and collaborating in the classroom and beyond. This session will cover how to create your first Sway presentation and share it with the world. What are you and your students going to create in Sway this year? This session will take place at 10am on Thursday and at 2.30pm on Friday and Saturday. Finally, during a workshop entitled ‘Delivering S.T.E.M with tablets’, The Tablet Academy will host a hands-on and interactive session bringing together a selection of activities designed for KS2 and early KS3 including Crime Scene Investigation, learning Maths via Turtle and programming with Lightbot.
