Contents Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. As I write this, I’m looking forward to joining a group of schools on a visit to the First World War battlefields in Belgium and Northern France. 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, and the Battlefield Tours project aims to give schools an idea of the impact of the battles which raged across this part of the continent. I’ll be returning to this subject in a later issue, in the form of a feature, but I’d love to hear from you if you’ve already got plans for marking this significant event in the history of World War One.

In this month’s issue, we take a look at the issue of childhood obesity, and how simple initiatives such as Walk to School Week can go a long way to introducing a change for the healthier in primary school children. In light of the fact that one in three

children now leaves primary school clinically obese, it’s surely time to start thinking about the ways in which we can all help address this. We also focus on managing your school’s IT spend – given the ever-tightening squeeze on schools’ budgets and the ever-increasing expectation that technology can help in the classroom, I hope you find the piece useful and informative. Finally, our regular contributors are on hand to offer their usual insight, and we have plenty of varied and interesting comment from across the UK education sector. Remember, you can get in touch with us via Twitter, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email. We love hearing from you!
