PRODUCTS MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT RUST REMOVAL GEL HELPS TACKLE CORROSION
NCH Europe has extended its X-Rust 7 range of rust removal products by launching a gel that can be used where immersion of an item in a liquid bath isn’t possible. The gel is pH neutral, effective at room temperature and leaves a temporary protective coating after application. Developed by NCH Europe’s Maintenance and Partsmaster Innovation Platform X-Rust 7 Gel’s formulation is designed to cleverly penetrate surfaces and its viscosity allows it to adhere to surfaces effectively. The gel will be used extensively in industries whose economies most suffer from rust: chemicals, construction, manufacturing, petroleum, petrochemical, pulp and paper and transportation (railways, automotive and aerospace). Applications include vehicle bodywork, tanks and mudguards, machine tool tables and beds, large metal components and assemblies, metal gates and railings, construction equipment, buildings, agricultural vehicles and marine environments. While immersion is the ideal way of
removing rust from a product there are many vulnerable applications where this wouldn’t be viable. This could be because the item is too large or because it’s fixed in place. As a result of being pH neutral the gel is safer to use and kinder to the environment than acid-based products. X-Rust 7 gel is applied with a brush and can remove light to medium rusting in as little as 20 minutes. It’s non- corrosive to steel and won’t harm brass, copper, titanium, aluminium, plastic, rubber, cast iron, solder, wood or glass. It doesn’t cause etching and the surface does not have to be neutralised before
BOILER PLATE SYSTEM FOR MAINTENANCE
IRISS, specialist in electrical maintenance safety devices has introduced the E Sentry Connect-IR Asset Tag - a smart boiler plate system that works with any make or model of infrared window. While the majority of similar products operate using RFID technology, this system works in tandem with a smart phone using near field communication (NFC). It’s low cost and very easy to use, providing instant electronic access to inspection data to ensure quick, safe and effective thermal inspection. IRISS E Sentry Connect-IR uses the
application, saving precious time. The temporary coating created by X-Rust 7 Gel buys the user time to apply a rust prevention product such as NCH Europe’s Resist X Extra or HyZinc Extra. “Corrosion costs around 3% of global
GDP,” explains Peter Crossen, VP of NCH Europe's Maintenance and Partsmaster Innovation Platform. “That is around US $2.2 trillion”. Unlike most products on the market there is no need to apply a heat source to make X-Rust 7 Gel work effectively. This results in an additional energy saving, which reduces operational costs. The gel is supplied in a single pack containing two, five litre, tubs and has a shelf life of three years unopened or six months once the seal is broken. This life span will not be reduced even if rust particles make their way into the gel. X-Rust 7 can be used at temperatures from 5 to 30 degrees centigrade.

DISPLAY SYSTEMS IMPROVE ASSET MANAGEMENT The system was a logical development for T Cards
Simple and effective communication is a vital part of efficient plant and asset management where all parties have a clear understanding of their (and others) responsibilities and an understanding of ‘current status’. The need to meet the increasing requirements associated with health and safety and compliance issues is becoming increasingly important in the workplace. A proven method of communicating key
information is provided by the products available from T Cards Direct who will be exhibiting The Plant & Asset Management Show 2016 at the NEC in April. Products on display include the successful T Cards
Online system which enables users to manage workflow in real time using the simple drag-and- drop technique, moving cards around the ‘online board’ to reflect current status. T Cards Online has become established as the
market leading online workflow monitoring system and benefits hundreds of customers across the UK who appreciate the convenience and flexibility of online access to essential information.

Direct to apply their extensive experience gained over many years of developing and marketing their manual based T Card Board and Card system. However, for many applications, especially in providing health & safety information, the manual board system remains the best solution. Providing information and communicating with staff and colleagues in the workplace is essential, particularly when hazards, incidents or near-misses occur along with maintenance planning which may impact on others. An effective, low-cost solution to ‘getting the message across’ is the Near Miss/ Incident Reporting/Maintenance Planning System boards. T Cards offer a wide range of standard manual products and online systems which meet the needs of most applications; bespoke solutions to suit more specific customer requirements are available for both manual and online systems.

send a text message, go to a URL, launch an app and run a task on a smart phone; all stored data can be erased and re-written as needed. The system can back up the data, report alarms and transmit other alerts via the free IRISS app. As an option this information can be
uploaded to the cloud for access by asset managers. It provides a data exchange point for updating information from the inspections, for checking the assets’ operational state and for setting inspection routes. The IRISS E Sentry Asset Tag is now a standard feature on the IRISS CAP series infrared window and available as an option on the VP Systems. It can be purchased separately to use as required.
