Profi le: The company was founded in 1984 as Abbey Thermosets Ltd. Following an MBO in 1996 by Michael Shirt, a former director, it was transformed into a masterbatch and dispersion business and the company name subsequently changed to Abbey Masterbatch Ltd. During 2014, the company invested £500,000 in a substantial development programme. Capacity was expanded by more than 30%. Today, annual production capacity is in excess of 30,000 tonnes, predominantly for black, white, additive and colour masterbatch and conductive compounds. Exports account for 70% of sales. Additional investment in buildings and an additional plant is planned for 2016.
Product line: Abbey Masterbatch manufactures a comprehensive range of commodity black and white masterbatch grades for fi lm extrusion, compounding, moulding, recycling, pipe and profi le industries. The company also offers polymer specifi c grades based on a number of polymers including PS, PE, PVC, EVA and PP. It also produces polyamide-based engineering masterbatches incorporating specifi c carbon blacks, dyestuffs and stabilisers, conductive and antistatic compounds and masterbatches, and colour and additive masterbatches.
