contents Christmas sales in full swing
The festive season seems to start earlier every year. This can be great news if you’re positioned to take advantage of the increased footfall. Garden centres are uniquely placed to offer a wide variety of what Christmas shoppers are hunting for, as well as providing catering and entertainment options to keep visitors engaged for as long as possible.
What has your centre focused on this year to help draw visitors? An unparalleled selection of gifts and ideas for Christmas presents? An engaging events schedule with visits from Santa or ice skating in the centre grounds? How about the seasonal menus in your restaurant, with everything from mulled wine to the traditional
turkey and trimmings? There is no denying that Christmas is big business for garden centres. As well as the key areas above, it’s also a time of year when merchandising and point of sale come into their own. With increased footfall comes a stretching of staff, and retailers can’t always afford to have people by fixtures, making sales directly. Make sure the suppliers you work with are providing exciting and innovative in-store solutions to keep sales ticking over even when staff can’t be there to assist.

However you approach the season, making it work for your customer base is essential. If there are lots of families in the area, put on events for kids. Perhaps try and entice a younger brand of gardener with later opening hours and mulled wine on offer. Whatever you do, hopefully the sales help to guarantee your own festive cheer.
