DIARY ‘TRANSFORMING THE LIBRARY’ Internet Librarian International conference in London will ponder ‘dynamic disruption’ I

n October London’s Olympia Conference Centre will once again host the Internet Librarian International event.

Under the headline: ‘Dynamic disruption; transforming the library’, the conference will feature 60 speakers, 50 inspirational presentations, 40 enlightening case studies, and delegated from more than 30 countries.

Keynote speakers are: David McCandless, a data journalist, information designer, and author of Information is Beautiful; and Jodie Ginsberg, chief executive of the UK’s Index on Censorship. McCandless’s

presentation will be entitled ‘knowledge is beautiful’ while Ginsberg will talk about ‘balancing privacy and free expression in the information age’.

Presentations at the conference will explore the following themes: l Which new technologies, services and business models are most appropriate today?

l Where should we focus our attentions next?

l What changes can we make to ensure our communities thrive?

l How do we deliver constant innovation? and

l How can we meet the often unexpressed needs of our customers? The event’s Sponsor Showcase provides further opportunity for attendees to network and review global information products, services and resources. The conference is structured so that breaks, lunches and receptions give sponsors prime time to talk with attendees and establish their information needs. The tabletop format for this exhibition area offers opportunities for quick demos and informal conversations and the Showcase remains open throughout the event.
