F

or almost 50 years, thousands of schools across the country have experienced the joy and fun of Christingle celebrations.

A memorable event for parents and children, these celebrations are vital in supporting The Children’s Society’s work with thousands of vulnerable children in this country. This year, The Children’s Society is inviting you to be a part of it. Will you join in?

Inspiring children Created especially for children, Christingle is a simple and effective tool to teach children about the Christian faith. The idea of the Christingle began at a children’s service in Marienborn, Germany in1747. Bishop Johannes de Watteville, looking for a simple way to explain the happiness that had come to people through Jesus, gave the children a lighted candle wrapped in a red ribbon. In 1968, John Pensom of The Children’s Society adapted Christingle and introduced it to the Church of England. Over the past 47 years, Christingles have become a vibrant and hugely popular event for churches and schools across the country, helping to bring communities together. Plus, with activities and resources which cut across the curriculum, we’ve made sure organising a Christingle is simple as well as fun. Simply visit christingle.org/school for your free resources.

Helping children What’s more, by holding a Christingle celebration this year, your school can help to change the lives of thousands of abused and

exploited children in this country - giving them the chance to be children again. Children like Lauren, who was just 13 when she was approached by a group of older men who were trying to sexually exploit her and her friends. Thankfully, she was referred to one of our services, where we were able to work with her to ensure that she had the confidence to make choices that would keep her safe from harm. The funds raised from Christingle celebrations are vital in

helping us change these children’s lives. Thanks to the generosity and compassion of schools like yours, last year The Children’s Society supported over 23,000 children and young people like Lauren who had nowhere else to turn. And we’re determined to do even more, but we can only do it

with your help. Without these much needed funds, we wouldn’t have been

able to protect Lauren, and we won’t be able to keep helping children. Will you join us in being there for children with nowhere else

to turn? Visit christingle.org today to find out more.
