A New Mission

Seasoned Veterans Tackling New Assignments at Shell Point

Jack Hubbard, a retired United States Air Force (USAF) Major,

is on a new mission. When he and his wife, Karen, moved to Shell Point Retirement Community, Jack became the leader of the Veterans Club; established for members of the various branches of the military. More than 60 people gathered for the first meeting in May 2009, and the group quickly swelled as former military personnel and servicemen assembled to share their common bond and experiences.

As a radio operator-gunner in the 306th Bomb Group, Jack

flew 24 missions in the flak-laden airspace of Germany and France during World War II. Following the service, Jack graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1947 and served as an officer in the Air Force until his retirement from the service in 1966. In addition to his military career, Jack made a second career in the real-estate industry.

There are hundreds of veterans living at Shell Point, enjoying

a rich and diverse lifestyle that includes boating, championship golf, culture, continuing education – even leadership and public service.
