Add in a few BNSF trackage rights trains and Genesee & Wyoming’s Little Rock & Western Railway (LRWN) connection and you have one of North America’s best locations for train watching. “We must be living right,” a fan remarks as UP No. 5760 heads north with Canadian National SD60F “Draper Taper” No. 5543 trailing. He and his friends have already witnessed ex- BC Rail No. 4609 on the point of a morning northbound. “We get just about everything coming through here.” The element of surprise is what keeps


the locals coming back on both weekdays and weekends. Western Pacific and Detroit & Mackinac boxcars, brand new oil tank cars with January 2015 dates on the side, numerous NS and CSX units — some leading — a Bay Line Geep on the LRWN local, and even orange slices shared among fans waiting for the next freight to come around the corner. By these accounts, Little Rock isn’t so


“little” on the railroad stage. It’s just too big to be ignored.
