New registration tools unveiled for 2015-’16 season
T e fi rst phase of U.S. Figure Skating’s new
Event Management System project (EMS) is complete, providing athletes an enhanced quali- fying competition registration experience. First addressed in December by U.S. Figure
Skating President Samuel Auxier, the project is being rolled out in three phases. After months of testing, Phase One was strategically launched July 15 to coordinate with the opening of the 2015-16 qualifying season. “While making the process easier and more
effi cient for all athletes and event organizers, ulti- mately this new system will be vital to the growth of U.S. Figure Skating,” Auxier said.
“An addi-
tional and important benefi t to U.S. Figure Skat- ing from the EMS project will be valuable data in multiple areas, including athlete tracking, plan- ning and organizational budgeting.” All of this new and future functionality
has been developed on the U.S. Figure Skating “Members Only” area on usfi
gureskating.org, al- lowing a one-stop, consistent platform for mem- bers to easily use and understand. It also will connect all member activities, such as transaction histories and results.
Here are the EMS Phase One highlights that
will benefi t those involved in the 2016 qualifying season:
• Athletes will be able to digitally create their
skating programs by uploading their planned program content and music. Once created, ath- letes can easily manage and attach their music selections to all qualifying competitions. • T e new practice ice feature will save lo- cal organizing committees time and manpower by directly managing practice ice requests and payments through the “Members Only” area, receiving daily fi nancial reports and payments from U.S. Figure Skating. • U.S. Figure Skating will provide standard-
ized event websites for all qualifying competi- tions, allowing host clubs to have a consistent look while providing athletes, coaches and offi - cials an easy-to-navigate site with consistent in- formation. • Event accountants will be able to quickly
and effi ciently upload fi nal IJS results (and 6.0 by end of 2015), which will immediately be add- ed to member profi les. Two more phases are being developed to add
even more benefi ts to the new EMS: Phase Two: Basic Skills Program rebranding
(July 1, 2015-June 30, 2016) T e name of U.S. Figure Skating’s premier
grassroots program will be changed, as will its primary registration process and the online skater director tools, which include scheduling, curricu- lum and the Basic Skills app. Phase T ree: Competition Management
for all Sanctioned Events (July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017)
T e focus will be on developing additional functionality that will allow all sanctioned events the same resources to eff ectively register and man- age competitions with one central portal. Addi- tionally, having all registrants and results fl ow through the U.S. Figure Skating’s EMS portal will allow for the fi rst time a complete picture of competition activity, while giving an athlete a full competitive history. To make it easier, an event app will be developed for the user’s convenience. When complete, the EMS program will pro- vide the tools and data necessary to enhance U.S. Figure Skating’s planning and budgeting.
