The M

Director’s Eddy What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say, “Partner?”

“swimming buddy.” A board member says, “law firm.” Clearly, the word partner can be used in a number of contexts, but at the ACA,

“partner” means working with like-minded organizations to reach a shared goal. In the ACA’s long history we have had a number of partners. We take these relationships seriously and try to weave them into the fabric of the ACA’s mission. Whether we’re talking about Subaru, the U.S. Coast Guard, L.L. Bean, or a local “friends of” group, each of our partners seeks to promote and protect the places where we all love to play. ACA is not loud about what it does, nor does it seek credit for having a hand

in so many successful initiatives to protect and preserve our waterways and to create opportunities to enjoy paddlesports. For this reason, it’s easy to overlook the good work the ACA is doing with its partners to help raise awareness and solve problems for the paddling community. We’ve partnered with Outdoor

y three-year-old son thinks I’m talking about a cowboy friend or that something is stirring in the Wild West. My six-year-old daughter says,

Alliance, USA Canoe/Kayak, NOAA, and a number of local organizations on important projects recently. As an association of paddlesports enthusiasts, however, our most important partner is you. We work constantly to connect you to the outdoors through education, exploration, recreation, stewardship and competition. Each member helps us achieve the ACA’s umbrella goal of making the world a better place to paddle, partner.

Thumbs Up & Down

Thumbs up to President Obama for his “Every Kid in a Park” initiative, which waves entrance fees to public lands for fourth graders and their families during the 2015-2016 school year.

Thumbs up to Senators Martin Heinrich (D-New

Mexico) & Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) for working to protect America’s public lands for future generations through bill AMD 571.

Thumbs down to the New Mexico Senate, who passed New Mexico Senate Bill 226, a bill that could potentially privatize the stream beds beneath public waterways across the state.
