Operation & Maintenance of Power Plants 

A smart approach to valve control

Intelligent actuators are playing a key role in enabling automated operations at the new Shanghai Disney, reports Qing Wang.

ntelligent valve actuators are supporting advanced environmental protection technologies at the Combined Cooling, Heating and Power Plant (CCHP) constructed to serve the spectacular new

Disney Resort in Shanghai, China. As a key infrastructure project for the Shanghai

International Tourism and Resorts Zone, the CCHP is a grid-tied, gas-fired power plant that co-generates cooling and heating via engine waste heat and produces compressed air by self-generated electricity. Te plant will supply hot and chilled water for space heating and cooling, domestic hot water and all the compressed air needs for the Shanghai Disney Resort’s daily operation in the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly way. Te project is designed, constructed and operated by the Shanghai International Tourism and Resort Zone New Energy Company Limited and will become operational in time for the resort’s opening, scheduled for the end of 2015.

Te actuator’s large, toughened glass, wide-angle indication window is the focus of attention for non-intrusive two-way wireless communication and multi-functional indication. It encompasses user-friendly menus for set-up, configuration and commissioning, local position indication, valve and actuator status, asset management and diagnostic operating information. process, showing the valve torque and usage profiles along with service logs, facilitating real-time analysis directly at the actuator. A handheld setting tool with Bluetooth wireless technology also enables the data from the actuators to be transferred to a PC for analysis using Rotork Insight2 diagnostic software. Valve maintenance requirements can be identified and anticipated, eliminating unplanned interruptions or over-cautious planned maintenance outages. l

aerated filters and pipelines. Te actuators’ proven record of reliability contributed to their selection for this prestigious project by the customer and OEMs. Efficient IQ non-intrusive technologies, including integral data loggers, enable the operator to monitor and analyse the condition of critical and safety- related valves.
