COVENTRY UNIVERSITY HAS received an illustrious accolade at a conference in the Czech Republic in recognition of its innovative approach to giving students an international experience during their studies. The award for ‘Innovation in

Internationalisation’ was presented to the University last week during the European Association for International Education (EAIE) event in Prague, which brings together universities from around the world to share knowledge and highlight success stories. Coventry was chosen for the

award based on the pioneering work of its International Experience and Mobility Service (IEMS), which in 2013/14 helped over 3,000 students from all disciplines study or work abroad to experience a different culture. The University was also

recognised for its online international learning programme, which gives students on Coventry’s campus the opportunity to work on tasks with an intercultural focus – often in collaboration with students from other universities around the world. Coventry’s international

activities have grown substantially over the past six years, culminating in a number of major developments during the past 12 months – including substantive collaborations with universities in Turkey and China through which students have further opportunities to study abroad. The Innovation in

Internationalisation accolade – which was accepted by Dr Jean-Bernard Adrey, director of IEMS – is the second such award for which the University has been recognised this month, with

IEMS also shortlisted last week in the ‘Outstanding Support for Students’ category of the Times Higher Education Awards 2014. Dr David Pilsbury, pro-vice-

chancellor for international development, said: “We’re delighted that the work of our International Experience and Mobility Service is being recognised beyond the UK higher

education sector and on a global scene. Coming hot on the heels of our nomination in the Times Higher Education awards, it’s testament to the fact that Coventry University is leading the way in providing students with international opportunities which will provide them with a richer education experience and enhance their employment prospects.”
