What’s Up, Chief?


Tim Kelly, coordinator of college offi cials in Illinois, spoke at the 2014 US Lacrosse National Convention about what it takes to be a crew chief. According to Kelly, a crew chief:


• Is responsible for the conduct, appearance and performance of all offi cials.


• Is a leader, communicator, educator and organizer.


• Has the passion to want to offi ciate the game for the right reasons.


• Has command of the game, outstanding people skills and the ability to communicate effectively.


• Believes and promotes the team concept.


• Is a positive role model for his crew and other offi cials.

10-1 CIRCUIT WORKOUT Circuit workouts are a great way to test your fi tness and push you to your


max. Try this workout once a week as a changeup to your normal routine. The goal is to complete each exercise using good form and to fi nish the circuit — even if you need to rest between sets. Time yourself and try to improve your time while maintaining good form.


ROUND 10


- 10 body-weight squats - 10 pushups - 10 jumping jacks - 10 sit-ups


- 10 burpees (squat thrusts, pictured below) - Sprint/jog/run the full length of a lacrosse fi eld


ROUND 9


- 9 body-weight squats - 9 pushups


- 9 jumping jacks - 9 sit-ups


- 9 burpees (squat thrusts)


- Sprint/jog/run the full length of a lacrosse fi eld ROUNDS 8 – 1


Subtract one rep from each exercise in each round until you get down to one.
