BRODIE HEADS HOME In a blockbuster National Lacrosse League offseason


trade, Brodie Merrill was sent from the relocated Wings franchise to the Toronto Rock of his native Ontario. It will be the first time the nine-year NLL veteran plays in his home province, and he will also have a chance to play his older brother, Patrick, for the first time in the pro indoor ranks. The Rock acquired Merrill and a second-round pick in the 2015 draft for forward Mike Burke, defenseman Craig England, a pair of second-round picks (2014, 2016) and Toronto’s first-rounder in 2015. The Wings, of which Merrill was a three-year captain, relocated to Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut a few weeks earlier.


UNC, STONY BROOK LAND IMPACT TRANSFERS


Attacker Alex Moore, the leading scorer for the USC women as a freshman last spring, transferred to North Carolina and will play for the Tar Heels in 2015. Moore, a native of Millstone Township, N.J., led USC with 35 goals and was a second-team All-MPSF pick. … Junior attacker Taylor Ranftle transferred from Virginia to Stony Brook. Long Island is her home. The former Hauppauge (N.Y.) star who totaled 396 points in high school played in two games for the Cavaliers last year.

I men’s coaching carousel came to a stop Aug. 18 when Dartmouth hired Lehigh assistant Brendan Callahan to be the Big Green’s next head coach. Callahan spent the previous seven years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Lehigh after a four-year playing career as a goalie at Stony Brook. Callahan started at Lehigh as a graduate assistant, and current Mountain Hawks head coach Kevin Cassese said he was “incredibly proud and


genuinely happy for him and his family.” Dartmouth finished 2-10 overall last


season and 0-6 in the Ivy League.
