Thankfully, the Dragon spits a lot less fire now after a merciful renovation that has made the course substantially more fun to play. Those who were turned off originally should definitely give it another chance. And while you’re there, be sure to take in the Dragon’s dramatic clubhouse— it’s the only building Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed for a golf course. But even if none of the other courses


existed, Grizzly Ranch would be worth the drive. It is ranked the No. 1 course in the Sierra by Golf Digest, as well as the No. 11 public course in California.
