Staying true to his vision, Curse recognises the needs of its audience and has launched innovative projects, such as Gamepedia (wiki sites for gamers), Union for Gamers (supports video game YouTubers), and Curse Voice (a VOIP tool specifically designed for gamers), all developed with the intent to foster stronger communities.
“Gamepedia was just the right thing to do,”says Thieblot. “Too many times I would visit a game’s wiki and found incomplete or out of date information. We launched Gamepedia as an alternative for gamers searching for the best wiki solution.”
Gamepedia has been a massive success with over 500 wikis created in the last 18 months, over 200 of which are the official wiki for the supported game. While written content is king at Curse, video content is heir apparent. Curse’s Union for Gamers network now has over 25m monthly uniques, over 2,500 content creators, and over 250m views per month. These views are across a variety of game genres, platforms and topics, but remains diligently focused on one thing: video games.
“Union for Gamers was a project that came out of nowhere. We were talking to all these streamers who had bad contracts with other YouTube networks and we just felt that someone should make it better,” says Thieblot. “It was clear to me that this is the right way for us to begin supporting video content.” Curse’s commitment to creating, supporting, and improving communities led to the development of Curse Voice – a fast, free, and safe voice platform that integrates directly into popular games. Communication is key for a strong community and this tool provides a dynamic voice experience unlike anything currently on the market. “How many media companies are creating better technology so their sites load faster, look better, and combat security risks? We do that because our users deserve it,” said Thieblot. “Curse Voice was developed in just over three months because we saw the market was lacking.” With less than 20 percent duplication from other news and resource websites, Curse reaches a prominent audience in gaming – over 52m gamers monthly worldwide and over five million per day. The possibilities for continued growth and innovation over the next decade are endless – yet with the same end game – to help like-minded gamers around the world connect, interact, and share.
