Children on the border With as many as 80,000 unaccom- panied children crossing into the U.S. this year, the ELCA is working through Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service to find foster care and provide other services. Calling the situation a humanitarian crisis, LIRS President and CEO Linda Hartke said the causes of the “new exodus out of Central America are complex, with escalating violence and death an overwhelming threat. New president for LTSP D


avid J. Lose begins serving this month as president of the Lutheran Theological Semi-


nary at Philadelphia. He succeeds Philip D.W. Krey, who retired after 15 years as president. Previously, Lose served as the


Marbury Anderson Associate Pro- fessor of Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., where he founded the Center for Biblical Teaching and led the development of WorkingPreacher.org. Before his time at Luther, Lose served Prince of Peace (Princeton


Junction), Holy Trinity (Audubon), and St. John Evangelical (Summit) Lutheran churches in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Philadelphia Semi- nary and Princeton [N.J.] Theologi- cal Seminary. The May 2014 graduation ceremonies of the Evangelical Lutheran School of Hope in Ramallah, the West Bank, featured speeches by students, choir selections and traditional Palestinian dancing (above) by the Al-Raja (Arabic for “hope”) Folkloric Dance Troupe. The school is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.
