From musical revolutionary to international pop star to beloved statesman, Gilberto Gil has “surfed the world while digging deep into Brazilian roots” (JazzTimes). As a founding member of Brazil’s Tropicália movement, Gil reinvented Brazilian popular music by combining Beatle-esque psychedelia, art rock, and Brazilian roots rhythms. Since returning to Brazil from his London exile in the early 1970s, Gil has held center stage as a charismatic performer with multiple Grammys, six gold records, four platinum singles, and more than five million records sold. Expect a party with the master of Brazilian pop.

This American Life host Ira Glass joins dancers Monica Bill Barnes and Anna Bass in a show that combines two art forms that, as Glass puts it, “have no business being together: dance and radio.” One is all words and no visuals; the other is all visuals and no words. The result, Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host, is a funny, lively, and very talky evening of dance and storytelling. Glass delivers his trademark narratives while Barnes and Bass (whom the Washington Post calls “the Tina Fey of dance”) evoke characters through their silent art form. The Santa Barbara Independent says the show is “a perfect—and perfectly unexpected—union.”
