Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival Director Soovin Kim and the Johannes String Quartet continue their acclaimed collaboration with Performance Today host Fred Child. Child’s colorful narrative guides the audience as the quartet makes “the entire listening experience an unadulterated pleasure” (Buffalo News). The group explores the musical connection between the high classical of the 18th century and dissonant 20th century modernism, pairing Beethoven’s immortal String Quartet in F Major, Op.135 with Bartók’s remarkable String Quartet No. 6.

Known for her theatricality, daring moves, and musicality, award-winning choreographer Camille A. Brown explores challenging real-life situations to find “humor and beauty, frustration and ugliness” (Oregon Arts Watch ). Exploring history with a modern female perspective, Brown leads her dancers through dazzling excavations of both ancestral stories and immediate contemporary issues. In their Flynn debut, the group performs Mr. Tol E. Rance, a piece accompanied by a live piano score that draws on W.E.B. DuBois and Dave Chappelle, and Black Girl, a new work that depicts the complexity of identity politics as a black female in urban America.
