GIVE AND GO

]

Maggie McCormick

Penn State’s All-American attacker draws inspiration from Jordan Who is your favorite athlete?

My favorite athlete varies depending on what season it is. Right now, probably [Orioles third baseman] Manny Machado. Go O’s!

What’s one thing you can’t live without? Movies. I definitely consider myself a movie buff. My favorite movie is “Silver Linings Playbook,” because it has my two favorite actors in it — Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

What’s one thing that always puts you in a good mood? A nice day on campus. State College is normally pretty cold, so when it starts to get warm out, the atmosphere is contagious. Everyone wants to be outside.

What’s been the proudest moment of your career? Sharing the ALC conference championship last year. I was so proud of our team and what we accomplished. It was a huge step forward for our program.

What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome? The overall adjustment to college lacrosse. I didn’t realize how much of a drastic change it was from high school, so getting used to the speed and overall level of play was a big challenge.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? I’m definitely afraid of heights, and this past fall, our team did a ropes course challenge where we were 40 feet in the air. It was scary, but I got through it!

What did you want to be when you were younger? Like every other 8-year-old girl, I wanted to be a marine biologist.

Where did you go on your last vacation? Every year, my family and I go to Ocean City, Md. At this point, it is kind of like a second home to me.

What is your favorite inspirational quote? “Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” Michael Jordan said this, and I really like the fact that he brings what sports are truly about down to their simplest level. You play because you enjoy the game.

What is your major? Public relations. I’ve always wanted to have a career where I am interacting with people.

Overtime (from Georgia defender Kelly Arnhart): What is the number one thing on your bucket list? I want to go to Europe. I’ve never been outside of the country and some of the places in Europe, like Italy and Spain, seem absolutely beautiful. Plus, I love to eat and there seems to be plenty of amazing food over there.

Double Overtime (from Ryan Burgess, Atlanta, Ga.):

If you could design your own stick, what would you have on it? I’d probably deck it out in American Flag style in honor of my teammate Haley Ford.

Pose a question for our next subject. What is one TV or movie character that you would trade places with?
