[YOUR EDGE] players

Make your move a little bit closer to a short-stick defender. They have less room for error. If you do get a step, there’s less reach.

If I get a shorty, I know a slide is coming. I like to pull out to the corner. It gives me a longer time to see the slide.

The second you start dodging, sprint hard and fast. You have a 5-yard gap. You’ll see players jog or skip into a dodge, allowing the defender to get a jam and run from the same place. You lose an advantage.

To roll dodge, carry over ‘X.’ This is where the defender starts to get upfi eld.

As I plant, I spin my head around and locate that slide man. If he is coming to the ball and doubling, I escape to the sideline. If not, I continue upfi eld to get a shot off.

I attack my defender’s top foot. Being a lefty, I want to bring him over to the right and split back.

You want to win or tie every possession. If the defender is doing a good job, there’s no point in taking a shot just because the slide didn’t come. At that point, you can either re-dodge, escape back to the corner and get another run, or move the ball and stay within your offense.
