Plant Management
More than just a mixer D
issolving and homogenising of the ingredients in pharmaceutical products face a large range of
challenges. Raw materials preparation, weighing,
mixing, dissolving, and diluting might seem simple but are in fact being rather intricate. These steps are obviously crucial to the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. Not only accuracy in dosing and the use of completely cleanable systems are extremely important factors. Depending on the ingredients – readily soluble or not, very expensive, maybe hazardous – further questions will have to be taken into consideration. Customised gentle mixing systems for
sensitive products for active ingredients or cell cultures are required as well as for powerful homogenisers for viscous slurries.
Closed systems with magnetic driven
agitators may be used in a loop with inline static mixers for hazardous media. With temperature as one of the prevalent critical aspects, an effective heating and cooling system is part of most mixing skids. Depending on the clients requirements M+W Process Industries GmbH offers design, construction and commissioning of modular as well as of customised solutions for temperature controlled stirring systems. Since the highest international standards for safety and product quality are required for the manufacture of pharmaceutical products construction and operation of all process systems is based on EU GMP and FDA standards. n

Shielded loop power accelerometers
M
easurement Specialties now offers the 801X series of rugged, internally-shielded,
4-20mA loop power accelerometers Designed to be connected to 4-20mA readout devices or directly into a PLC/ DCS control system, the new sensors offer a dynamic range of ±5g to ±50g in either an RMS or Peak output for use in a variety of industrial environments. The Model 8011 and Model 8012
are hermetically sealed and operate in temperatures from -40°C to 85°C, making them suitable for use in a number of general purpose industrial applications such as monitoring of motors, pumps, compressors or any type of rotating machinery. The Model 8011 comes with a top exit 2-pin MIL-C-5015 connector and the Model 8012 features an integral cable for installation flexibility.
The new accelerometers offer a <5%
transverse sensitivity and a frequency response from 10Hz to 5,000Hz (600cpm to 30,000cpm). Each unit can withstand shock up to 5,000g actuation. n
