Rugged connector range from Multi- Contact resists vibration and hydrocarbons

Providing a reliable connection in environments subject to severe shock and vibration, the new TBC plug connectors from Multi-Contact are suitable for both mobile and stationary applications. Using the company’s Multilam technology the connectors offer low contact resistance and a long lifetime. Their rugged, high performance insulation is resistant to fuels and other hydrocarbons and can withstand temperatures across a wide range from -40degC to +125degC. Available with 6mm and 8mm contact diameters and in two and three pole versions, the TBC range is rated for voltages up to 1000 V and continuous currents as high as 180 A. Designed to be simple to connect and disconnect, their flat space-saving design incorporates a locking catch and prevents pole reversal due to incorrect coupling. Environmental protection is IP2X unmated and IP54 mated when using heat shrink sleeving. These connectors are suitable for use with electric motors and batteries in industrial applications such as lifts, winches, cranes and battery chargers, as well as in electric vehicles

Vertical top mount SMT connector targets industrial & solid-state lighting wire-to- board markets

AVX Corporation has introduced the first vertical, top mount, SMT, wire-to-board connector specifically designed to meet the configuration, performance, and cost goals addressed by industrial and solid-state lighting design engineers.

Screw clamp contacts for simple assembly

Binder has introduced a new range of M12 panel mount connectors that feature screw clamp contacts and a two- part body. They are designed for when connectors are mounted after connection has been made to the device and the cable bundle or single wires protrude from the front panel. The rear of the body of these new connectors mounts either to a panel cut-out using a M20 thread or via a lock nut. The wires are terminated via screw contacts in the insert mounted in the front of the body that can be located in one of four positions to control the direction of cable outlet and the connector can then be assembled. These A-coded M12 interface connectors

provide easy mounting in field applications, are available in 4, 5 and 8-pole male and female

Featuring AVX’s dual-beam, 3mm, high spring force box contacts packaged in a protective insulator, the 9296 Series vertical, top mount, poke home connectors provide mechanical stability and wire retention in addition to simple strip and insert wire loading and twist and pull wire removal. Designed to surface mount on the top of a PCB, the new one- to six-way 9296 connectors allow users to insert solid or stranded, plated or un-plated, 18-26AWG wires directly through the connector’s top aperture and are ideal for a variety of industrial applications, including: LED lighting, smart meters, building controls, fire and security systems, and industrial motor controls and drivers, among others. “We designed our new 9296 vertical top mount SMT connector to satisfy a significant gap we identified in the industrial and solid state lighting wire-to-board markets,” said Tom Anderson, Product Manager at AVX. “Many of the vertical through-board options that exist are not robust enough to satisfy the unique demands of industrial applications. With this latest addition to the 9296 Series, AVX now offers vertical top mount, bottom mount, and through hole poke home connectors that provide reliable off-the-shelf solutions specifically designed to meet the configuration, cost, and

performance requirements for a broad range of industrial applications.”

The 9296 Series vertical top mount connectors feature RoHS-compliant copper alloy contacts with tin over nickel plating and are rated for 300VAC, five-cycle durability, and temperatures ranging from -40°C to +125°C. Available in one to six positions, each connector will accept the entire wire gauge range for either solid or stranded wires at varying current ratings supported by each wire size; and, once inserted, wires can be easily removed or replaced by twisting, unscrewing, or using a small blade extraction tool. Tape and reel packaged for automatic

assembly, each 9296 Series vertical top mount connector is supplied with a small kapton tape on the top to aid with the pick and place process. Post-soldering, the tape should be removed and discarded.

High-performance contacts yield consistent terminations for circular connectors

Hylec-APL extends waterproof range

Hylec-APL has added two IP68 electrical connectors to its waterproof range which have diameters that are less than that of a one pound coin. The inline connectors both use cable gland technology to form a completely weatherproof seal without the need for silicone gel. The connectors are designed so that the terminals form part of the outer casing making the overall diameter of the connectors just 23mm. Electrical connectors which offer high ingress

protection and cable retention tend to be awkward and cumbersome to install. They often rely on bulky protective outer casings or messy silicone gels to offer the water resistance which can make on-site installation a time-consuming process and any future maintenance work a nightmare. Hylec-APL has addressed this issue with two new waterproof connectors which can be installed in minutes, require no silicone gel protection, and offer one of the smallest footprints for an IP68 solution on the market.

The mini-TeeTube and mini-TeePlug use a design which incorporates the wire terminals as part of the external housing. Both ends features a dome topped cable gland and co-moulded sealing rings which enable a wide cable diameter range and ensures the high IP rating when assembly is complete. Once inserted the wire can be quickly secured to the terminals to make the connections. For further safety, once correctly cabled and ready to be plugged together, the mini-TeePlug's mating ends are key-way protected so will only fit when correctly aligned and automatically connect Earth pole first. Available exclusively from Hylec-APL these connectors can be ordered in 2, 3 or 4 pole options. Quick installation, wire piercing screw terminal blocks are also available which make it possible to secure the connection to IP68 standards in less than a minute.

TE Connectivity’s Raychem SolderTacts contacts utilise a one- piece contact design with integrated soldering technology to deliver fast, reliable terminations for circular connectors. SolderTacts contacts help eliminate the variables of crimping and enable a one-step installation process that can reduce handling and installation costs. Their versatile design makes them particularly well-suited to military, aerospace and defence equipment applications. “An easy, reliable termination solution is essential to our customers when it comes to commercial and military connectors,” said Janeann Avants, Product Manager, Global Aerospace, Defense & Marine, TE Connectivity. “SolderTacts contacts require no assembly and offer one of the simplest, fastest and most reliable methods of termination of coax cables, shielded wires and twisted pairs.” SolderTacts contacts provide simultaneous electrical connection and strain relief with a heat- shrinkable tubing insulation. The insulation is transparent and inspection windows are provided to produce a fully inspectable termination. The contacts provide the optimum amount and type of solder and flux in a prefluxed solder preform that controls soldering and reduces operator sensitivity. The geometry of the coaxial cables is carried through the connector to eliminate the need for separate pins, helping reduce crosstalk and improve shielding

effectiveness and signal transmission. SolderTacts contacts can be terminated with

standard TE Connectivity Raychem heating tools and, once terminated, they can be located in and out of connector cavities with standard insertion and extraction tools. They are replaceable without cutting and re-stripping or shortening the cable.

The Raychem SolderTacts product offering encompasses designs for connector types: MIL-C- 38999 Series I, II, III & IV, MIL-C-26482, MIL-C- 83723 and MIL-C-28748 and are available in a range of sizes to suit all the popular contact configurations.
