Ragan is rising star in women’s freestyle
King University standout enjoyed breakthrough season on the mat in 2013
By Richard Immel United States World Team member Alli Ragan had a breakout season on the mat in 2013, both on the collegiate and interna- tional circuits.
The entirety of Ragan’s success stems from her early years being spent in a wrestling room, the daughter of Carbondale High School Wrestling Coach Dennis Ragan. Under the tutelage of her father, Ragan became only the sec- ond female wrestler to qualify for the Illinois high school state wrestling tournament.
Ragan finished with over 100 victories in her high school career.
Ragan had a breakthrough season in 2013 as she won her first WCWA National Championship at 136 pounds for the newly named King University.
She followed by capturing titles at the U.S. Open and U.S.
World Team Trials on her way to representing the U.S. in Budapest, Hungary at the Senior World Championships at 59 kg/130 lbs.
According to Ragan, the catalyst for her breakout year all began at the Women’s World Cup held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
This was Ragan’s first Senior-level international competition and an opportunity to gain confidence in her ability to compete
