ATHLETE SUMMIT RECAP
USA Track & Field invited elite athletes from U.S. Olympic and World Championship Teams to the 2013 Athlete Summit at the Fontainbleau Miami, Oct. 17-20, for discussions on success in competition, life away from the track and post-career transitions among other topics.
“Continuance of Excellence” was the summit’s theme as the Athletes Advisory Committee and Board of Directors were also in attendance to engage athletes in these important dialogues.
Leading discussions was Beijing 2008 Olympian and USOC athlete representative Mechelle Freeman alongside USATF Board Member and vice president/associate general counsel of the Miami Heat, Eve Wright. Marcus Jadotte, vice president of public affairs and multicultural development for NASCAR, and Ann Gaffigan, AAC ex- officio, presented best practices for social media to emphasize the importance of capitalizing on successes at Olympic Games and World Championships.
As Elites and invited guests discussed physical and mental preparation heading into Rio 2016, Dr. Ralph Reiff of St. Vincent Sports Performance explained the healthcare benefits available through the Elite Athlete Medical Support Program.
USATF President and Chair of the Board Stephanie Hightower joined CEO Max Siegel in presenting the organization’s continued progress, including programming which directly impacts the athletes.
Rounding out the presentations were several team building and energy management exercises led by sports psychologist Dr. Margaret Ottley.
With the successes of the Olympic Games and World
Championships still fresh in the minds of athletes, the 2013 USATF Athlete’s Summit proved a perfect forum to push forward the world’s No.1 track & field team.
