In January of 2003, I decided to collect Jeeps as a hobby. I was always fond of these vehicles as a child, and was very interested in the history that they represented. The very first Jeep I acquired was a CJ-3B, followed by an M606 WILLYS HI-HOOD.

Once home, I begin cleaning, and pondering the next step. My first inclination was to drop in a V-8, but quickly changed my mind and decided to keep the stock 4 cyl running gear. I put about 400 miles on the Willys and the oil pump failed, which was a perfect time to start the restoration. First stop was Kaiser Willys Auto Supply. After receiving their catalog, and talking to the very competent staff, I begin ordering the parts I needed. Everything from the engine parts, wiring harness, fuel tank, radiator, springs, shocks, overdrive parts, steering wheel and too much more to mention. Six months later, running great, but paint started to look a little worn out, and the rubber was cracked and deteriorated. Stripped it down to the body, and off to the paint shop. While in the spray booth, it was back to Kaiser Willys for new rubber, and weather seals, windshield wipers, hub caps, and so many other small parts I can’t remember them all. Back from the paint shop looking better than I expected, I begin the transformation of putting it all back together. This was without a doubt the most rewarding part of the restoration. All done except for the upholstery. Three weeks later, upholstery complete and time to put it on the road and enjoy it! I began the restoration from the body works to the under chassis. When I bought my first jeep, it was powered by an Isuzu diesel engine C-240, but all the under chassis are all in its original parts. I simply changed the engine transmission to the original one: a WILLYS valve-in-head and WILLYS transmission, performed some body work and repainted.
That was followed in February of 2004, when I was able to buy two more units of MB, 1 M-606 WILLYS_MITSUBISHI and M-38, and 3 units of M38AI. I restored them all that same year. In 2005 I then bought a CJ-3A, a Korean military Jeep, and 4 units of MISTUBISHI- HI HOOD. I enjoy looking for units that I can purchase and restore, and I find great pleasure in seeing these vehicles brought back to their old glory and top condition. I own about 15 units of Jeep, and am still in the process of restoring some. ■
