The Develop Industry Excellence Awards will once again be held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole on Wednesday, July 9th, recognising the biggest innovators in all aspects of games development. An impressive 136 companies have been shortlisted this year, including over 68 developers representing 14 different European nations. And that’s not counting the hundreds of other companies that will be in the room on the night. The finalists will be fighting over 24 awards, with new prizes including Musical Composition, Talent Investment, QA & Localisation, Studio of the Year, plus the newly-split duo of Tools awards. PS4 lead architect and conference keynote speaker Mark Cerny is the winner of this year’s Development Legend award. www.developawards.com.


THE EXPO


The Develop Expo runs alongside the conference from Wednesday, July 9th to Thursday, July 10th.


Free to all visitors, this brings some of Europe’s most innovative tools and tech firms to showcase their wares – Sony is even bringing demo units of Project Morpheus. Meanwhile, the Indie Showcase, sponsored by Unity, shines the spotlight on the most promising independent projects. Finally, the Develop Networking Bar and Lounge, sponsored by Unreal Technologies, is ideal for anyone in need of a quick refreshment or a good rendezvous point.

Legendary developer Peter Molyneux and fellow 22cans dev Jack Attridge discuss how the lack of deep mechanics in casual titles inspired Godus, a game they hope will change everything for casual gamers.

Siobhan Reddy of Media Molecule and Bossa’s Roberta Lucca ponder how established studios stay relevant and how small developers grow without losing that indescribable ‘indie’ quality.
