The Challenges of the 2014 Drought: Water Project Operations

Sponsored by WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2014

Sacramento Convention Center 1400 J Street, Sacramento

2014 is one of California’s driest years on record, creating challenging hydrologic conditions for operations of the State and federal projects that move water across the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. These conditions have resulted in greatly reduced allocations to project contractors. Similarly dry hydrologic conditions were last experienced during the 1976-77 drought, a time when the state’s population was far below present levels, crop patterns in the San Joaquin Valley were different, and Delta fishery management was focused on striped bass. Learn about how this drought is affecting water

project operations and conditions in the Delta and the actions being taken to balance impacts to cities, farms, and the environment.

This FREE, one-day briefing is for anyone interested in understanding how this year’s extreme hydrology is affecting water project operations, including members of the media, elected officials, legislative aides, water district managers and board members, state and federal agency officials, city and county govern-ment officials, farmers, environmentalists, attorneys, consultants, engineers, business executives and public interest groups.

Topics to be addressed include: ➤ The present drought in comparison to past droughts ➤ Actions to implement measures in Governor Brown’s drought emergency proclamation

➤ Water project hydrologic and operational constraints ➤ Expected operational conditions this summer

To register, please return the form to Water Education Foundation, 717 K Street, Suite 317, Sacramento, CA, 95814 or FAX 916-448-7699
