up to -80°C: IGMP inductive proximity switches

expert EGE provides new inductive proximity switches for low-temperature environments in medical technology,

I spiral freezers, and other

cryogenic applications that use liquid ni-trogen as a coolant. The units are designed for a temperature range from -80 to +70 °C. Manufactured from AISI 316Ti stainless steel and

PTFE, the robust, IP68-protected sensors have a 3 mm nominal switching distance. Signal proc-essing is carried out by EGE’s IKZ 130 or IKM 120 amplifiers.

ORD DRIVESYSTEMS, a leading manufacturer of geared motors and electronic drives, has joined GATE (German Airport

he recent introduction of the infrared linescanner system ScanIR3 complements the product portfolio of the Ircon pyrometer brand.

This new series was specially developed to create real-time thermal images in a wide variety of applications, for instance in the glass, metals, semiconductor, and plastics industry. The linescanners are suitable for temperature monitoring of continuous processes as well as discrete manufacturing in production lines. The series comprises eight models for various spectral ranges and wide temperature ranges. Featuring built-in laser sighting, water-cooling, and an air purge housing, the rugged units withstand even the most demanding conditions. A protective enclosure enables operation at very high ambient temperatures. With a maximum optical resolution of 200:1, a scan speed of up to 150 lines per second, and up to 1.024 measurement points per line, the new Ircon linescanners are among the most precise and fastest systems in the market.

t the EMO 2013 exhibition, Raytek (hall 6, stand C65) will showcase temperature measurement solutions for the metal working industry. The company which markets the renowned Raytek and Ircon brands has been one of the leading providers of non-contact temperature measurement with infrared (IR) sensors for over 50 years. This year’s trade show highlight is the new generation of Ircon ScanIR3 infrared linescanners. Additionally, Raytek presents its large program of IR pyrometers for various applications throughout the steel making process – from coke ovens and blast furnaces to annealing mills and coating mills – as well as temperature measurement solutions for foundries, forging mills, and other industrial heat treating facilities.

ith the robust control units featured in the GLASSCAPE range, RAFI ranks among the leading suppliers of capactive touch input systems for industrial applications. RAFI has recently started up production of glass sensors for touchscreens with large screen diagonals up to 24". This enables RAFI to increase the quality and cost-effectiveness of its devices and simultaneously reduce dependency on Asian suppliers that devote their capacities to the mass market for smartphones and tablet computers. Up until now RAFI has used foil sensors in which a transparent indium tin oxide coated foil with microscopic conductor track structures is laminated on the back of the front glass. However, because many suppliers devote their production capacities to the production of smaller foils, this resulted in delivery delays and drastically decreased product quality in some cases. In addition many manufacturers would only accept minimum orders in the thousands – volumes that no longer met the needs of premium manufacturer RAFI in a specialized market. To ensure the availability and high quality of the required sensors, RAFI has decided to use glass sensors produced in-house in the future.

Controlled heat treatment of seamless pipes

ipes used in the oil and gas industry need to withstand high pressures. Manufacturers must verify temperature uniformity during heat treatment which is performed in a special furnace while the pipes are rotated. Depending on the thickness and grade of the steel, a cycle lasts up to 90 min at about 950 °C with maximum temperatures reaching 1,000 °C.

P

Since rectangular thermal barriers designed with conventional thermal protection cannot be installed in the pipes due to size and performance constraints, an entirely new approach was required. Based on its unrivaled experience in the development of specialized thermal protection solutions, Datapaq has designed a cylindrical vapor phase barrier for this application. The TB4095 thermal barrier is combined with a Tpaq21 data logger, and the Furnace Insight software. Through thermocouples placed at various points across the pipe surface, temperature uniformity of the product can be proven.
