I JOINED THE TRUST FOR PUBLIC LAND BOARD BECAUSE … The Trust for Public Land is a major force in the conservation movement, and the scope of our mission inspires me. Now more than ever, there’s urgency for this work. At the end of the day it’s going to take a collective effort to make significant strides in land conservation.

MY PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AS A BOARD MEMBER WAS … helping The Trust for Public Land muster funding and support to protect Katahdin Lake in Maine.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Page Knudsen Cowles (Chair), Stephen W. Baird, George Bell, William J. Cronon, George P. Denny III, Douglas Durst, Whitney Hatch, Caroline P. Niemczyk, Michael E. Patterson, Thomas S. Reeve, Roy Richards Jr., William B. Rogers, Ron Sims, Sheryl Tishman, F. Jerome Tone, Susan D. Whiting

THE WORK OF THE TRUST FOR PUBLIC LAND IS VITAL BECAUSE ... as a population, we are turning our backs on the countryside in an inexorable march toward the city. It’s important that we ensure the presence of open space in urban areas—as a reminder to all of us of the power of the land.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING THE TRUST FOR PUBLIC LAND IS ... to create awareness

of our quiet—perhaps too quiet—and exceptional work.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO SUPPORT THE TRUST FOR PUBLIC LAND BECAUSE ... opportunities to affect major, lasting transformations across the country don’t come around that often. I support The Trust for Public Land because I know our work will ripple across countless families and communities in America, for today and for generations to come.

WHEN I WANT TO CONNECT WITH NATURE, I ... go for a long bike ride, a swim in the ocean, or a barefoot walk in my own backyard where the Earth speaks to me through my feet.
