The new Olympus Photo Story function is great for creating mini montages of celebration images. Available on the Stylus XZ-10 and PEN E-P5 models, it allows you to capture three themed frames. There are different modes available depending on the particular effect you want to create - capture the same scene from multiple angles, or shoot a piece of action, such as a champagne cork popping or birthday candles being blown out. Of course, the Photo Story mode makes creating this type of image really easy, but you can create your own montage on your computer too.


Go for emotion


If there’s one thing guaranteed at celebrations, it’s emotion. As any successful reportage photographer will tell you, the key is anticipating that emotion. If there’s a surprise guest arriving or a speech being made by a loved one, you can guarantee some great responses. Have the exposure and focus preset on your camera, then grab the shot quickly, taking plenty of frames. Emotionally-charged images often look great in black & white, so either choose a relevant Art Filter or switch to mono in post-production.
