After the tornado of 2011, rubble (left) was the only thing remaining of Peace’s original building (above), which was constructed in 1965.

“There’s a new attitude among the congregation now,” Redpath said. “I’ve heard almost no com- plaints about the new space, and everyone is happy to finally have a home.”

As the congregation settles into its space, members are thinking about the role they want to play in their new neighborhood. Redpath said the congregation’s

goal is clear: “We want to be the ‘neighborhood church,’ open to the community, interactive, welcom- ing, and always providing an avenue to share the gospel. We’re in a new place and we want to reach out.” As part of this movement to

engage its community, Peace is evaluating opportunities to best use its massive land tract. A children’s playground was recently installed.

The vacation Bible school pro- gram included painting bird and bat houses for the church property. And members are discussing other dreams: an outdoor pavilion, a walk- ing trail, even a disc golf course. “We have all this space, and now we have to learn how best to take care of it,” Redpath said. “We want everyone to remain open to new ideas.” 
