ON THE COVER Mining for insight
16 Leader: Siân Harris Researcher input
One odd thing about an industry that serves the information needs of researchers is that many of the discussions about these needs are often noticeably lacking in researchers themselves. Such an issue is often noted in the Twitter discussions accompanying conferences in our sector. This made the discussion on mobile apps at the recent Special Libraries Association meeting, opened by chemistry professor Neil Allison, particularly interesting. As features continue to be developed to make better use of the capabilities of mobile devices and information on the move (pages 24 to 28), Allison revealed that accuracy is always top of his wish list for chemistry apps (page 22). Our cover feature this issue also brought a great opportunity to hear from researchers. One of the big buzz-phrases in the past couple of years, especially in terms of licensing, copyright and open access, has been ‘text and data mining’. But what do researchers want to do with scholarly content, and how are publishers dealing with requests today? Find out more on pages 16 to 18. @researchinfo
