sliding door leading out to the garden, she’s opted for oversized, glazed, paneled doors - much more homey and also more in keeping with the house’s Victorian origins.
She produced a large garden terrace, which, at nearly 90 feet, is easily big enough to seat eight - “it was a bit of a squish trying to fit everyone onto the previous terrace. The beauty of this south-facing garden is that it’s wonderfully sunny and you’re hardly overlooked, which is quite rare in the capital.”
As far as Camilla’s concerned, the garden’s just another room, but a startling one for a designer used to having control over interior spaces. She admits the problem with a garden is that it changes all the time. “Things grow. Sometimes, plants I don’t expect to go beyond a certain size just take off.”
It’s hard to get the balance between contemporary and traditional, smart but not too fussy, just right, but selling agent Jason Corbett from Sullivan Thomas with Carter Jonas believes she’s managed to pull it off. Now that her brood - who’ve all enjoyed rambling round this fun, family abode - has left home, it’s time to downsize somewhere smaller.
Jason would like to see a new family move in, but suspects “the very tastefully done house” will appeal to a family with teenagers, a bit like Camilla’s, “or well-controlled young ones - no sticky fingers in sight - or perhaps a downsizer or investor.”
The house is keenly priced at £2.7 million, but Corbett argues this reflects where Wandsworth is in the market these days, along with the recognition that it would cost at least £100,000-£150,000 for someone to produce an equally stunning designer finish.
As well as private commissions, Camilla designs show homes for new developments, just another manifestation of attracting families to property. Whether they’re ‘consciously uncoupled’, celebrating a landmark anniversary or creating a whole new life, having the perfectly designed home can make all the difference. It certainly has at Brodick Road.

CAMILLA JOHNSON’S TOP TIPS
• Try to maximise space, but keep things in proportion. • A safe option is one colour for the walls, but you can use darker and lighter shades of your chosen hue.
• Add extra colour through cushions, accessories and artwork. I change my cushions every now and again to get a whole different look.
