The iSH Intelligent Servo Module technology only requires a single power supply in the cabinet which can power as many as 25 machine- mounted servo modules. The only components that are needed in the cabinet include the controller and the common power supply for all servomotors. The Cabinplant machine is comprised of a container, vibrating conveyor, robots, product bands, and a vision system.
A central PacDrive controller (PDC) controls the robots and performs the calculation to determine the weight of each product. The human machine interface (HMI) and vision system are connected to the controller via Ethernet.
The software program is based on an Elau PacDrive template, and allows a programmer the flexibility to build modules suited to the particular mechanical structure of the machine.
How the operation saves time and money Below are the main steps involved in the processing of sardines utilizing the Schneider Electric / Cabinplant solution:
> Fish are loaded in bulk into the container. The fish are then placed onto a vibrating belt. On each side of the production belt, empty cans are first supplied and then filled out. A camera detects the positions and lengths of each fish product, and calculates the weight by means of an algorithm.
> The robot picks the products individually and, using its multifunction tool, performs all steps in the cutting and trimming process. One tool cuts the extremities of the fish and another removes the internal organs.
> The finished, gutted fish is then placed into a can and is properly positioned, while the box moves toward the product sealing device. The robots perform the cross-packing of sardines and utilize the space in the box to present the best aesthetic look.
> The weight of each can is controlled and based on data from the vision system. To minimize waste, the contents of each can is regulated, so that each can comes as close to the minimum weight as possible.
“The system is modular, and can grow from 4 robots to 10 robots,” says Hansen, “and the system is modular in terms of mechanics, software, and electronics.” Expansion requires no additional assembly work in the electrical cabinet. This makes it simple to integrate multiple robots for processing and packaging purposes.
