ON THE COVER E-books in libraries

12 Leader: Siân Harris The e-book stampede

For the past six years, preparing for the April/May issue of Research Information has meant one thing: considering the state of e-books. Our first e-book special focus coincided with some of the early big publisher announcements in this area, and it has been interesting to take an in-depth snapshot every year since.

Many issues have remained the same. However, one thing that has definitely moved on is the level of activity in e-books, with every year bringing announcements of new platforms and publishers entering the market. Indeed, the level of interest in providing comment for this topic was so high that we could easily have filled twice as many pages on the topic; there are longer versions of some of the interviews at www.researchinformation.info. As it is, we have given this issue over almost entirely to e-books, with comments from librarians, library management system vendors, publishers, aggregators and more. If you have an e-book story to tell, please get in touch. We are always interested in reader comments. @researchinfo
