ASME (the American Society of Mechanical Engineers) has launched the ASME Digital Collection (formerly the ASME Digital Library) on SCM6, an online publishing platform from Silverchair Information Systems. The platform is said to provide a new taxonomy to deliver highly accurate and related content of greater relevance drawn from ASME’s collection of proceedings,
journal articles and e-books. It also promises full-text and taxonomic search capabilities, new topical collections and enhanced content display. In addition, it offers improved usability, information discovery and ease of reading, along with personalisation capabilities and optimised viewing for all web- enabled smart phones and tablets.

New chemistry titles accept submissions
Two new journals published by Chemistry Central – Heritage Science and Sustainable Chemical Processes – are now accepting submissions.
Heritage Science will publish work covering all aspects of research into objects of cultural and historical significance, including analytical and imaging methods, development of new treatment methods
and materials, understanding of chemical and biological degradation processes, and statistical methods to aid our understanding of culturally significant objects.
Sustainable Chemical Processes promises to cover all scientific and engineering aspects of sustainable approaches in chemistry.

Open-access publisher BioMed Central has launched BMC Psychology, which it says is the first solely dedicated open-access psychology journal of its kind, covering all aspects of psychology. The launch edition includes an interview with section
editor Irismar Reis de Oliveira, discussing current trends in psychotherapy, an editorial: ‘Putting the BMC into Psychology Publishing,’ by Gordon Harold, and a research article looking at why people with HIV are less able to recognise facial emotion than those without the condition.

IOP launches topology journal
IOP Publishing has launched Surface Topography: Metrology and Properties. This brings IOP’s journals portfolio to 68 titles. The electronic-only journal will focus on the progress in surface topography measurement and characterisation, instrumentation development and the properties of surfaces.

Semantic enrichment company Access Innovations has teamed up with the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and IOP Publishing (IOP) to create a new astronomy thesaurus.
The Unified Astronomy
Thesaurus (UAT) was created for the American Astronomical Society (AAS) and is aimed at helping to improve future information discovery for researchers.

IET announces APC and waivers
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has revealed its article processing charges (APCs). Researchers whose papers are accepted for publication in The Journal of Engineering, or who wish to be
published OA in an existing IET journal, will pay an APC of $1150, regardless of the length of the article. Waivers will be available for researchers in developing countries.
