Demo a German electric 29er and try to keep from smiling
f the thought of taking an elec- tric-powered mountain bike out on the trails here at Sea Otter gets you excited, head over to Kreidler (Booth 206)—it’s by Volkswagen. Kreidler is a German company demoing its $4,500 electric 29er called Vitality Dice. “The new Bosch motors are re-
I
ally powerful and the trails around here are perfect. Not too technical so they are smooth enough to get some speed up,” said Kenny Rob- erts of Radsport USA, an importer of high-end German brands—Syn- tace, Liteville, SQlab and Kreidler. If you want to demo some-
thing more burly, you can take out the Liteville 601, a 190-millimeter- travel bike, or the 301, with slightly less travel at 160 millimeters. Litevilles come as frame, headset and shock packages. The 601 sells for $2,999 and the 301 sells for $2,499.
Radsport just started importing
SQlab, and you can stop by the booth for a free saddle fitting. SQlab focuses on ergonomics,
and as you would expect from a German company, they sweat the details.
Saddles come in four widths,
12 to 15 centimeters, and feature a “step-down” nose area. So when your sit bones are up on their pads, the nose area is a few mil- limeters lower to relieve pressure. They are also showing their
Active saddles that have a little elastomer under the rails allowing the saddle to rock slightly as you pedal. “For someone with back or pelvic pain, just that little rolling movement can be enough to eliminate all your pain,” Roberts said.
SQlab’s 611 Team saddle with
titanium rails weighs 250 grams and sells for $121. A titanium-railed 611 Active weighs 290 grams and sells for $165. Different widths, step-down noses and a little give—all sounds complicated, but it’s pretty easy to hop on a trainer and see for yourself.
