The fi ve-event PBA Summer Swing will be aired on CBS Sports Network, beginning a multi-year agreement between the PBA and the sports cable channel. The 24-hour sports arm of CBS will air fi ve two-hour telecasts from the Summer Swing on consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning June 11. “We’re thrilled at how committed
CBS Sports Network is to the PBA,” said PBA CEO Geoff Reiss. “The PBA’s long-term success is predicated on developing great partnerships, and we’re looking forward to working with
everyone at CBS Sports Network to grow both the PBA and the network.”
ummer will reunite the Professional Bowlers Association Tour with an old partner, while introducing the competitors to three new friends.
The Power of Networking: CBS covered the PBA’s ‘Gold Pin’ era in the late 1990s (above). Now, CBS Sports Network will focus on Chris Loschetter (left) and the PBA Tour, starting with the fi ve-event PBA Summer Swing.
It certainly isn’t the fi rst collab-
oration between the PBA and CBS Sports. As early as the late 1970s PBA summer events have made occasional appearances on what was then CBS Sports Spectacular. In 1998 and 1999, during the PBA’s “Gold Pins” era, near- ly 20 Tour events were carried on CBS Sports, with Marshall Holman off ering much of the color analysis. The 2013 Summer Swing, to be held in Milwaukee, will be contested
on three new “animal pattern” lane conditions, the Badger, the Wolf and the Bear. (Insert “Oh, my!” here.) Each pattern will produce a champion. Cumulative pinfall totals from the three events will determine contestants in the fourth event, the Milwaukee Open, and the top fi ve point leaders based on the fi rst four events will qualify for the stepladder GEICO PBA Summer King of the Swing fi nale.
