The second edition of the Footwear Industry Awards an even bigger success

Organised by Datateam Business Media for the industry, with the support of the British Footwear Association (BFA), Independent Footwear Retailers Association (IFRA), the Society of Shoe Fitters (SSF) and Footwear Today, The Footwear Industry Awards were held on the first night of the Moda Footwear Show, Sunday 17th February 2013 at the National Motorcycle Museum. Building on last year’s fantastic debut, this year’s event was an even bigger success. Following a voting process in which over 2000 individuals had their say, the trade united to celebrate award winning products, people, retailers and services.

L

aura West of the Society of Shoe Fitters said: “The trade is strongest when it works together and this bigger and better event united the industry. Well done everyone

who took part and to the organisers, it was a great success, definitely top spot on the shoe trade calendar.” Richard Kottler, Chief Executive of The British

Footwear Association added: “This second edition of the Awards was a real step forward. Good enthusiastic attendance, excellent venue with good food and despite the large number of Awards – where BFA members either won or were Highly Commended in eight of them - the evening flew by and never flagged!” IFRA’s Arthur Spencer-Bolland, agreed:

“A thoroughly enjoyable and highly professional event which is a credit to our industry,” he said, adding: “We ought to get even more independents involved in the nominating and voting process in the future, as the brands become more proactive in canvassing on their behalf.”

This fantastic evening, in which excellence was

rewarded at every level, was attended by over 250 guests.

Nicola Phillips, from Footwear International (the

UK Agent for Ricosta and Gioseppo, who both exhibited at Moda) was the lucky winner of our free prize draw for a pair of tickets to the Footwear Industry Awards plus a night’s accommodation and breakfast at the 4* Manor Hotel. Nicola was chosen at random from the 2000 plus people who voted and was delighted with her prize, inviting Theresa Baile, Country Manager for Gioseppo as her guest. Nicola said: “I was really surprised to receive Sue’s phone call to say I had won two tickets to the Awards Dinner and I was thrilled to be able to attend. I remember winning Sherry glasses in a raffle when I was 4 years old ... not much use to me at the time ... so this prize was much better! I have to admit, the usual mild panic of, “Oh no, what shall I wear?” did cross my mind, but I think that’s a typical female reaction. I had a great time, and must thank Footwear Today for inviting me

(thanks Sue for looking after me) and many thanks to New Brands and Mephisto for entertaining our table.” The event also raised over £1500 for Footwear Friends following a charity Heads & Tails at the end of the evening. Many thanks to all of you for your contributions to this worthy cause. Congratulations also to Nicola Zachariades, Marketing Executive for SKECHERS, who won a pair of ‘His and Hers’ Berghaus Jackets in the charity Heads & Tails. Sarah Clarke of Russell & Bromley, meanwhile, won a weekend spa and golf break for four people at the Best Western Plus Manor Hotel, Meriden. We would also like to thank our sponsors:

Garvalin, Retail Technology, Rieker, Chatham Marine, MODA Footwear, bugatti, Cherry Blossom, Out on a Limb, Shoe-String, SKECHERS, Clarks and, of course, Footwear Today.
