ROYAL VICTORIA DOCK SCHEME PROPOSED BY LONDON MAYOR BORIS JOHNSON
New London app taps into future face of city
Estates Gazette has teamed up with New London Architecture, Deloitte and the mayor of London’s office to launch London’s first live development map. Launched by editor Damian Wild and Boris Johnson on
Tuesday at MIPIM, the fully interactive map showcases all major developments in London. More than 200 schemes – including completed and proposed future projects – are already listed, with more to follow. Users will also be able to compare 10 opportunity areas outlined by the mayor’s office. “Like the mayor himself, we believe London is the real
estate capital of the world,” said Wild. “This map will equip anyone with an interest in the capital’s development with an essential tool for viewing schemes across all 33 boroughs. Working with NLA, Deloitte and the mayor’s office, we will be adding to it all the time to ensure the app provides the best guide to the changing face of London.” Jon Milward, Deloitte Real Estate’s head of
development, said: “The New London app is an incredibly powerful interactive tool. It not only takes the temperature of development activity in the capital today but looks forward to where that activity will be in the future.” The app will be available for download from the App Store next week.

Boris floats stilt-town
BY JOANNA BOURKE Mayor of London Boris Johnson returned to MIPIM for the fourth time to outline his plans for a floating village double the size of Soho in the capital. In his Future London keynote speech in Palais des
Festivals’ grand auditorium, Johnson said City Hall had identified a “bluefield” site at London’s Royal Victoria Dock, E16, to create a “town on stilts”. The site will add to London’s 18 opportunity areas. Johnson said: “We have found a stunning new beautiful site. We have 220 acres of prime London water capable [of accommodating space for] development that is double the size of Soho.” He outlined ambitions for “hundreds and hundreds
of cool homes”, restaurants and a cultural quarter. The new floating village, along with the 18 existing
opportunity areas, could provide enough space to build 80% of the new homes needed to cope with the capital’s rising population.

The first homes will be ready by the end of 2014. UKR has also struck a lock-out deal with Derby Hospitals NHS Trust to acquire an 8-acre site at the former Derby Royal Infirmary. The scheme will comprise 300 homes, plus retail, restaurants and other amenities. UKR is now seeking planning consent for the new urban village known as the Nightingale Quarter. Jones Lang LaSalle advised UKR on valuation, planning and development; Innes England advised on site acquisition.
