A GREAT YEAR AHEAD
This year is shaping up to be the most important year in recent Rugby League history.
England winning the World Cup would be the greatest boost our game could receive on a national level, and all of us involved in the team are aware of the responsibilities we hold in trying to achieve this. I am certain our players will receive the very best possible preparation leading into the competition. Alongside the legacy that will hopefully be created by a successful tournament, the changes currently being trialled in Primary Rugby League are fantastic steps in the right direction for our sport.
Creating the right environment, along with the correct playing format, which includes modified rules, playing numbers and size of pitches, will give our youngest players a far better opportunity to flourish and hopefully let them aspire to be our World Cup heroes in years to come.
Finally, while observing the behaviours of players and supporters from certain other sports, I see our RESPECT campaign to be of significant importance. The reputation we have of being respectful to our opponents and our match officials, of being a very honest sport, is something we need to continually drive forward, and protect. It makes our sport special – let’s keep it that way!
