Team Tennis. King’s knowledge in the marketing of a team league in what is primarily an individual sport could prove invaluable to the PBAL. “The model for the PBAL closely
matches the format of World Team Tennis, my core business,” said King, owner of the New York City WTT KingPins. “I am a big believer in the team concept and excited this is defi nitely not your typical bowling league. It’s new, it’s groundbreaking and it is defi nitely going to be competitive.” As if to prove her involvement
is more than simply window dressing, King made the fi rst transaction ahead of the league’s opening matches, acquiring the PBAL’s only woman player, Kelly Kulick, in a trade with Bettis’ Motown Muscle for PBA titlist Brad Angelo.
“Kelly and I have connected
through several Women’s Sports Foundation events,” said King, “and we were so proud of her when she became the fi rst woman to win a PBA Tour title.”
“Billie Jean exhibits power,
confi dence and a competitive desire to win,” Kulick said. “I wish to possess those characteristics and be a team player. It’s an honor to be chosen and represent such an authentic captain.”
