In honor of Black History Month, Diversity & the Bar looks at the remarkable life of Mary Ann Shadd Cary, the second black woman to earn a law degree in the United States. She was an abolitionist and journalist, and was the first black woman publisher in North America. She later joined the National Woman Suffrage Association where she worked alongside Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. BY TOM CALARCO
