AT&T’s project with INSEAD, the business school, to analyze the types of technology that drive productivity growth continues to move forward. The report – “Building Business Performance and Competitiveness with ICT” – due out in January will look at the impact cloud computing, mobility and Unified Communications can have on firms from a variety of industries.

The data collected from over 200 CIOs and ICT leaders from Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America, is already delivering some interesting results.

INSEAD have found, for example, that firms that invest in ICT and have a mature digitized platform – i.e., the extent to which a firm has standardized ICT, business processes and data across its business units – increase significantly the likelihood of high performance.

For example, the research shows that high investors in mobility that also had a mature digitized platform were more than twice as likely to be competitively agile – i.e., they could respond more quickly and effectively than average to threats and opportunities –than firms that made similar investments in mobility yet had an immature digitized platform.

The report will profile companies, including several AT&T customers, that are using ICT to achieve business value. It will also make a number of recommendations to companies about ICT investments as well as provide governments with recommendations on ICT policy.

The full research results will be available in the next edition of Update.
