Several of U.S. Figure Skating’s top athletes launched their 2012‒13 campaigns close to home with prom- ising results.
Te U.S. nearly swept the singles
events and earned two medals in pairs and dance at the 2012 U.S. Figure Skating International Classic in Salt Lake City, the first-ever senior B in- ternational competition held in North America.
Te Classic, which took place in
mid-September, is expected to be an annual event moving forward, with next year’s competition also scheduled to be held in Salt Lake City. In the ladies field,
U.S. bronze medalist Agnes Zawadzki held off U.S. junior champion Gracie Gold to claim the title. It was Zawadz- ki’s first international senior triumph. Zawadzki led by 5.87 points after
the short program but hit a snag in her free skate to Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
