We marched for a future that w orks
Teachers from villages, towns and cities travelled to London on Saturday, to join the 130,000-strong TUC ‘A Future that Works’ demonstration on 20 October. Primary, secondary and sixth form NUT members joined college students, other public sector workers and trade unionists to protest against the Government’s brutal austerity programme and cuts to health and education.
Wales NUT member Steffan ap Dafydd set off from Cardiff on Saturday 13 October to walk to London in time to join the march. He was joined by a number of trade union colleagues from the PCS, FBU and UCU.
Union leaders and Labour party leader Ed Miliband made speeches attacking the coalition’s spending cuts. Ed Miliband told the crowd: “Andrew Mitchell may have resigned but the culture of two nations runs right across this Government. They cut taxes for millionaires and they raise taxes for ordinary families.”
