Seve Ballesteros Legends Tournament In late November, Pebble Beach will host the inaugural Seve
Ballesteros Legends Tournament. This new event raises funds for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, which was created by Ballesteros in 2009. One of the greatest and most charismatic golfers of the last generation, Ballesteros was also an ac- knowledged master of the short game. Building on that legacy, tournament organizers are holding what is described as the “mother of all par-3 tournaments.” Pro golfers and celebrity captains will lead 18 teams of four
around the Peter Hay par-3 course amid a carnival atmosphere with live music and DJs, fine food and wine, TV screens broadcasting from around the course and other attractions. Additionally, the team package includes two days to play at Pebble Beach Golf Links and The Links at Spanish Bay. For more information, visit sevelegends.com.
NCGA MEMBER SURVEY: No. 18 IS FAVORITE AT POPPY HILLS
In a recent survey of NCGA members, Poppy Hills’ 18th pulled in 25 percent of the more than 7,000 votes cast for the favorite hole at Poppy Hills. The 10th was a close second, trailing the winning hole by 104 votes. The entire course will soon benefit from an extensive overhaul that will include sand capping the course, renovations
to all greens and green surrounds, elimination of many false elevation changes and a softening of many of the doglegs present throughout the current layout. “The 18th hole, one of the membership’s favorites, will be an enhanced par 5 with more balanced fairways,” says
NCGA CEO/Executive Director Lyn Nelson. “Moguls on the right side of the fairway will be replaced by an expansive waste bunker. The renovation will maintain the excitement of trying to hit a shot close to challenging hole locations on a slightly expanded green.” Renovation is set to begin in March 2013, weather permitting, with portions of the course open for play beyond that date.
